Photographer Mary Rafferty has that hard-to-find combination of skills: She’s easy to work with and she knows how to capture “perfect moment” shots for her clients.

Mary began her career as a photojournalist, and she draws from these roots in every shot. She notices details and documents, rather than directs, her clients’ moments. Whether she’s photographing babies or couples, events or businesses, Mary’s gentle demeanor and expertly trained eye help her discover the spark in everything.

“A lot of photographers can take a portrait, but that’s not what’s exciting to me,” she says. “I want those shots that make my clients’ faces light up because I’ve really captured the person they know so well.”

In addition to her journalistic experience, Mary has more than a decade of experience in portrait photography. She collaborates with other elite photographers and runs her own studio in the easy-to-get to Ravenswood neighborhood of Chicago.
